At our farm in the Netherlands — a large house but little land — we became inspired in the early 2000s, partly thanks to the British series River Cottage by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. That’s how we began on a very small scale with raising pigs, oxen, laying hens, meat chickens, sheep, and goats.
Alongside that came the knowledge of how to process everything the animals provided us. Marjolein took many courses on this with Meneer Wateetons.
Bit by bit, regenerative farming emerged as the clear path for us whenever we wondered which direction to take.
Luckily, we found our own land in the Corrèze — with connected pastures, groves, and forest, also highly suitable for growing fruit.
We strongly believe in several principles: regenerative farming (with soil as the starting point), agroforestry (which combines planting hedgerows of, among others, fruit and nut trees — helping to lower soil temperatures during heat and reduce erosion), and mob grazing as a grazing technique, especially for cows (on a relatively small area, 1/3 of the grass is eaten, 1/3 trampled, and 1/3 fertilized). The cows are moved to a new plot every day, or even several times a day, preventing overgrazing.
We also believe that every animal has the right to live among its own kind, to roam the pasture, and even if it is destined to be eaten or to provide something, it still fully deserves the best possible care.
